So what is with all this 2012 apocalypse talk? My college student explained, “December 23, 2012 is the end of the Mayan calendar; some people think it signifies the end of the world.”
So I have a couple issues with this concept. First, how do we know what is meant by the Mayans only doing a calendar 2,500 years into the future? Why is that their job?
“Hey, Chocquiquatl, milk the cows, thresh the wheat, and then grab the stone-cutting tools and work on that future calendar. We only have it done through 1722; we wouldn’t want to freak out the pilgrims.”
So it is either the end of the world or a Mayan dude got tired of chiseling. Also, I don’t think the Mayans could see the future evidenced by their lack of indoor plumbing.
(I will make a bold prediction that the world will not end in 2012. I will take all bets. 100-to-1 odds. 1,000-to-1! Cash, check, or money order.)
Happy New Year everyone!

Yeah...
Last night I thought about 10 years ago I was watching the new year ring in all around the world on TV. The world didn't end anywhere in the year 2000 either. And Y2K was a joke.
