The Catch

So I know I’m not supposed to be eating fast food, and I don’t very often, but I went into a fast food establishment today and there was a huge poster advertising a nice “combo” meal for only $3.99. Ever the cheap frugal consumer I pointed to the poster, “I’ll have that.” The clerk shifted his weight and asked, “Large, small, or tiny?”

“I don’t know. Whatever you have pictured there.” (I didn’t want to risk tripping up the $3.99 deal.)

He tried Ploy #2. “Regular or curly fries?”

Perhaps it was a legitimate substitution but I wasn’t taking any chances. I said, “Regular, if that’s what’s in the poster.”

He looked at the poster and then said, “Yeah, um, that price is only for that exact burger and we sold it a few weeks ago to a guy named Gary. Your total is $8.49.”

Not really, but I think they are planning on taking down that poster if I ever come again.
