What do you do when you are working on a jigsaw puzzle and you come across those random pieces that were not quite separated? Do you keep or pull apart? Do you figure that the jigsaw gods have smiled on you and have given you a little freebie or are you a purist?
I am a separator. I immediately pull them apart. It bothers me if I don’t. I know I shouldn’t give it a second thought, either way, but I do. I mean, I know it shouldn’t cause an ethical dilemma, it’s not like passers-by are going to be unduly impressed or even fooled. “Wow, he has half of the border already, and those random sky pieces and a couple pair from the flower garden. How does he do it? What vision! What dexterity!”
No, my reasons for separation are purely economical. We paid for the entertainment value of assembling pieces. I want to get my money’s worth. That’s the whole thing with puzzles; if they’re already done they’re not much fun. If you opened up a jigsaw and it was already done that would be kinda lame.
Yes, I’m a confirmed separator.
p.s. So if you happen to wander by a puzzle I’m working on, and it seems like a lot has been done, go ahead, be impressed. Feel free to compliment my vision and/or dexterity. It’s legit.

I have, or should I say the behavioral class I subbed for at Scoggins middle school, has a jig saw puzzle dilemma. I spent about 2hours of FISD time working on the blue sky of a puzzle. After feeling proud of my work, I noticed that several pieces had gaps in between them and several pieces looked jammed in. Nonetheless, I seemed to have fit all of the pieces in. The dilemma was- should I have torn it all apart because pieces were obviosly in the wrong places or do I just leave it alone and let the teacher figure out what to do with it? After all- how many teachers have a 100 million piece puzzle sitting on their desks at their places of employment? It was an interesting classroom which had 3 teachers for 2 students (The classroom had an empty padded wall room for those moments during the day when the students needed cooling down/reflection time.) So what would you have done? Would you have torn it apart or left it alone? Maybe the teacher will make use of the padded room when he sees his puzzle. I am assuming if I never get called back to sub for that class it might be because I failed at putting together a puzzle correctly. The next time I accept a sub job I probably should ask if there is puzzle building involved!
I keep the pieces together ☺
I do the same thing!! Albeit, I have not done a jigsaw puzzle in like ten years but I always thought it was cheating.
i would take it as a gift...less puzzle i have to endure.
