Lines in the Water

Like any boy, I have always enjoyed casting a fishing rod. I’m no Huck Finn but I’ve been fishing maybe a dozen times. I think what I liked about fishing was the anticipation of a bite and reeling in a taut line. I like fishing, well, except the K-D-D part (kill, decapitate and disembowel.)

I think I’ve found something that mimics the fun part, but you don’t have to kill anything. I’ve mentioned here before that for about six months now I have dabbled in selling baseball cards on eBay. Any given week it’s like I have four or five lines in thewater and although they don’t become taut in my hand, every time I go to the site I learn if I got a nibble or a bite.

I know, it’s not the same thing as sitting by a pond in nature and foraging for food as my ancestors did but the nice thing is at the end nothing has to be killed and people send money to me electronically! Then I can go buy fish sticks.

I'll tell you. Keep in mind that I had to purchase the set and then pay all the eBay listing fees, etc. The first time I only sold 238 of the cards, and have sold 32 more since, and I figure I've cleared about 18 cents an hour. It was a lot of fun though and I learned a lot. The second one is still ongoing and so far it looks pretty good but it really is too early to tell.

Hey Montel Williams said he has taken up fishing too. Ü

Sara, you're having a lot of secret parties at Bear Lake.
