Ever-Present

At the beginning of the school year, I wrote about how I found that my college student managed better on shorter budget interims. (Click here to refresh your memory.) Now the school year is ending and I am happy to report that the ‘weekly budget’ worked very well throughout the year. Every Friday I transfer  her weekly allowance.

One minor risk of the plan was that I might forget to transfer the money one week. I mean, what if I just didn’t think about her for a few days and it happened to cross a Friday? However, I have come to realize arboretum 006that this really isn’t a problem because I think about her a lot. I don’t know exactly how often, maybe 200 times a day and more than half of these times I consider if it is time to transfer the money yet.

I didn’t miss once and I’m convinced I won’t.

p.s. Amanda is doing well at school and we still miss her here. Just last night as we gathered for prayer one of the kids was anxious to begin, and after a quick scan said, “We’re all here; let’s go.” I know what she meant but I couldn’t help saying, “No we’re not. Amanda isn’t here.” My comment earned a reproving glare from the wife for delaying the prayer but I couldn’t help it. Sorry. I can’t agree to “We’re all here.”

There is this song that always makes me kind of sad called "Sometimes a Day Goes By." It is from an obscure musical and I have no idea what the context of the song is, but this post reminded me of the song.

Also a jazz song named "Waltz for Debbie" has your name written all over it. It would be your waltz for Mandy.
