I don’t watch much TV outside of some live sporting events, but periodically even those attempts are frustrated by the DVR queue. I’ll spare you the details, but at present we have the ability to record four programs simultaneously, on different televisions, but on the rare occasion that I want to watch TV, often all four DVRs are already set and I have a choice to watch a show about kiddie pageants, cupcakes, dancing, or models. If one of the choices was watching paint dry, I might stay but not those. It is maddening when I'm watching a game, and with little warning, the channel switches to HGTV to record something. I could override it and lose the recording, but the risk in so doing ranges from “no one will notice” (Phineas & Ferb) to “extremely irate wife or daughter” (any reality show.) Ryan and Erika rarely set the timers, but for Kara and Natalie it is part of their daily regimen.
Today I read a disturbing story about a channel-watching spat in which the father tried to defy the wishes of his family. The disagreement escalated to violence and the man, who was 68, was killed. Seriously. The story is here. Kara was incredulous at the story.
Not that our disagreements ever escalate beyond petty annoyance, but knowing that prime time on Thursdays can be crowded, I said, “I don’t want any trouble, but if possible I would like to watch Game 7 of the NBA Finals tonight.” Kara laughed at my intro and said I should be fine on the upstairs TV between 6:30 and 10:30 p.m., if the DVR is in "dual" mode, if we have good weather, if I barricade the media room doors, and if Natalie is distracted.
As we parted, she reaffirmed that I could watch with impunity (upstairs.) I thanked her and reiterated that it wasn’t an enormous priority to me saying, “Look, it isn’t a matter of life-and-death.” Again, we shared a chuckle. I kill myself. (No pun intended.)

That is an INSANE story about the African man and his family. It is hard for my brain to accept it as reality.
Speaking of reality, I think I've said this before, but the only reality shows I have any interest in is ones where they are doing something creative. Although I have been sucked in by Biggest Loser at the gym.
who watches toddlers and tiara's? (the kiddie pageants) My girls and I LOVE LOVE that show!
Natalie, of course. Last year I blogged about it. I was not as impressed. Here is the link:
