Why Queen

Last month I wrote that my children ask “Why?” whenever met with an inconvenient request. It doesn’t matter what my response, there will be a debate. Any request. Any question. Every time.  This notwithstanding, last night Erika reached a new level. I am still so baffled.

I had made spaghetti and as she began eating I asked her how it was.

“Why?” she asked.

Why? Because I am nice, I made it and I’m hopeful that you are enjoying it, and because I am about to dive in myself and if the sauce is rancid or something, I’d rather hear it than taste it. I don’t know. Why why? When someone asks you how the food is, you don’t question their motive. Honestly.

i think i am with erika on this one...if I were eating spaghetti and mom asked me how it was i would ask why...why....is there lamb in it instead of beef? mushrooms? shredded fish? lima bean puree? clams or oysters? is this some sort of a test to prove to me that i like something that i do not normally like?

Yeah, like I'm always putting in lamb or lima beans in things....she knew it was straight from the jar. I was just trying to be pleasant.

I asked Dan how his bagel was (which he had already consumed for lunch a few hours earlier) and he suspiciously looked at me and asked that famous question.

I guess I'm outnumbered. Maybe I should be more suspicious when someone asks me how it tastes.
