The other I was riding along with Ryan and while stopped at a light, I noticed that he was texting someone on his phone. No way, Jose. No texting while driving. I know we’re stopped but at some point, the light will change and you need to be watching. I had him hand the phone over just for the duration of the short car ride which he vehemently protested.
“Dad, what if I get a call?! I don’t want you to answer MY calls,” he said.
I told him that if the phone rang he could pull over; I’d let him answer it. He tried a different argument, “What if it’s an emergency? I’d better hold the phone.”
What are you, 911? When Mom says your phone is for emergencies, she’s talking about to having one, not responding to one. Besides, how are you going to better handle an emergency while driving than I could just sitting here?
Of course he had no answer to this. He just feels so unsettled without his phone in his hand or pocket. It isn’t that he doesn’t want me to see what is on it. I didn’t even open it this time but he was so agitated. I have perused it on random intervals (which I told him I would do) and it is all just a bunch of worthless chit-chat.
And it isn’t only my son. Tonight I was riding with Amanda and she was texting while driving, as in while she was cruising down a residential street. Are you kidding me? I had her stop it immediately and told her the rule. No texting while operating machinery, especially that we’re riding in. I told her that I had caught her brother doing that too but that I shouldn’t have to tell her. She countered, “But I have my license, he doesn’t.”

ouch! Jake doesn't even drive and he lost his phone permanently almost a month ago. It became my worst nightmare.
in Az it is against the law to text and drive. It's scary if you ask me.
Kids amaze me though. They text so fast it seems like it is effortless for them. I was with one of Jakes friends and I told him to relay a meesage for my by way of text. It took him less than five seconds, so I thought he didn't really give the message. Later I had Jakes phone and looked it up, not only did he give the message without any text abbrevations, he added a few of his own comments aswell!! How did he do that so fast?
Is it a form of addiction? It is incredible.
definitely addiction. all the classic signs. the only positive thing I've found is that threatening to take is away is a meaningful motivator.
