I was watching a college football game today and Kara stopped by for a moment and watched with me. That is rare. The score was an unconventional 2-0 and she asked, “How do you score just two points?”
I told her that Tech had gotten a safety. That explanation seemed hollow so I continued, “A safety is when the defense tackles the offense in the offense’s end zone.”
She indignantly said, “As if I didn’t know what a safety was! Sheesh.”
I was puzzled. Had I been condescending? If she knew what a safety was, how did she not know its point value? There is only one way that the score could be 2-0. As I considered a response, she said, “Just messin’ with ya; that was my next question.”
Whew.
