Today is the last day of school. Growing up this was such a magical day. The summer appeared to be endless, with weeks after weeks of carefree days. I think the last time I enjoyed such a day was 1982, because every summer since then I have either been a missionary or working.
I finished graduate school in 1992 and began working full-time. Even though my child wasn’t in school yet, when school dismissed in 1993, it hit me hard that my work was never going to let up for summer. But I was OK with that; I wouldn’t want the paychecks to let up either!
The summer of ’08 should prove to be memorable. First, I’ll be home for the foreseeable future. That has never happened. It will be Amanda’s last summer before finishing high school. It is the only summer we’ve had where all four children will be returning to their same school in the fall. I am looking forward to being with my kids
