One thing that I have never understood about basketball is the whole “foul trouble” thing. If an NBA star gets whistled six times, the penalty is that he cannot play in that game anymore, besides any additional on-court benefits that the other team gets. What I don’t understand is when the coach sits his star if he gets three or four fouls. Isn’t the coach just accelerating the penalty? It is like me spending time in prison now just in case I rob a bank. Why? I’m sure coaches have good reasons for this but I don’t understand them. Commentators say that the tea wants to save its stars for the end of the game. Why? Do baskets count for more points then? If you really feel you have an advantage with that guy in there, play him now. You get to keep the points! I mean, I understand resting a guy but sitting him only because he is in “foul trouble” seems like a self-inflicted exacerbation.
Go Lakers!
