For the past several months, we have fielded several recruiting phone calls from the U.S. Army. They ask for Amanda. Now, no disrespect to my daughter, but I can scarcely think of someone LESS cut out for military service. (Well, maybe Erika) Amanda is still skittish at fireworks. At Girls’ Camp she slept in an air-conditioned cabin and to her that was “roughing it.” Just TRY getting her out of bed before she is ready!
Drill Sergeant: Get out of bed!
Private Hixon: I know! You don’t have to yell.
(15 minutes later)
DS: You are still in bed?! Get up!
PH: I am. Leave me alone.
(1 hour later)
DS: OK, I give up. You win. Go home. We won’t call you anymore.
PH: Just a few more minutes. I’m still tired. But can I keep the cute camos?
She is patriotic though. Every night in 1994 and 1995 I think she requested "America The Beautiful" at bedtime. And this past spring I saw her perform "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" on stage and she was awesome. I guess she would be more suited for the USO than the US Army!

That is so funny. Hannah is definitely her cousin!
