Periodically Kara and I review the texting activity of our older children. 99% of the conversations are of no consequence. I am reminded of when I was a kid and we got new Walkie-Talkies. It was so exciting! One would run to some remote part of the home or yard to try them out. But the novelty wore off quickly as we realized that we had nothing to say.
“Hello? Can you hear me?”
“I hear you, loud and clear. Can you hear me?”
“Yes.”
“Cool.”
There was nothing else to say. We might throw in some trucker jargon like “10-4 good buddy” but the technology quickly outstripped our creativity and conversation needs. And so it continues with cell phones and texting. But it is worse because often they use letters for words and if you “LOL” no one hears U.
