I apologize for the hiatus in posting. My parents were in town for the week and I willingly traded blogging time for visiting time. Saturday we attended a family reunion in Canton, Texas. It was with my my dad’s cousins that we don’t know too well. We had a very nice time.
It was great to spend time with Mom and Dad. A bonus of the visit was that they brought along one of my “bonus” brothers – Jeff. I was in Argentina in 1985 when Jeff was born but that was only of consequence during the first few days of our acquaintance, when he was 1. Ever since, despite our 20 year age difference, he has been a close brother to me.
During the week, Jeff maintained a balance between hanging out with the adults and the children. I suspect that he mat be outgrowing the role of “kid player” but you wouldn’t know it by observation. He swam with the girls several times, spent hours teaching guitar to and wrestling Ryan. Whether it was playing video games or teasing or sharing wisdom the kids felt that they had cornered the market on the cool uncle and soaked him up.
When the time came for our company to return home, Natalie gave a hug to Grandma and Grandma, but she gave Jeff at least four hugs. Mom put it best when she said, “Wouldn’t it be great if we all had an Uncle Jeff?” Yes it would. I’m glad my kids have one.
