I love it when Natalie sings along. She has a whole routine to all our favorites. This week the top song is “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus. There is nothing cuter than watching her “Noddin’ my head like yeah. Movin' my hips like yeah.”
I realize that I am not a part of the target demographic, but it is a fun song. It is a feel-good semi-autobiographical piece. In one part of the song, Miley sings, “Like who’s that chick that’s rockin’ Kicks, she’s gotta be from outta town.”
I asked Nat for an interpretation. She explained that Kicks are hip shoes but what I was really interested in was the verb. She said that “rockin’” is “wearing.”
I asked, “So, could I say ‘I’m rockin’ jeans’ right now?”
“No Dad. It has to be cool and stylish.” She explained. “…and you have to be under 20.”
Understood. I don’t “rock” anything.
(She can’t imagine, but back in ’82 I was rockin’ OP shorts. And tube socks.)
