After our weekly semi-formal dinner yesterday, I asked Erika to make some brownies. She has expressed a modest culinary interest, but to date she is not very handy in the kitchen. I had to help get her started by greasing the pan and identifying the vegetable oil but after that she flew solo. She read each step and ingredient aloud and then carefully added it.
I was pleasantly surprised with the result. While munching on a tasty brownie I complimented her skills and asked what her secret was. With a grin she confidently said, “Well, my secret is two eggs, 1/3 cup vegetable oil, 1½ cups water, stir in mix, pour into greased 9 x 13 pan, bake at 350º for 25 minutes, let cool and serve.”
