Amanda concurrently applied to BYU (Provo) and BYU Hawaii before Thanksgiving, and has been eagerly awaiting notification. She told us that she would know within four weeks of the Dec. 1 “priority deadline.” By January 5th she was frustrated that she still had not heard. (Amanda and uncertainty do not co-exist well.) I have noticed a pattern: when she is feeling the stress of her uncertain future, she fills out college applications. She has applied to North Texas, UT Dallas, and even Oklahoma. This week it was Texas Tech. Red Raider friends have told me “Don’t send her there,” she doesn’t want to go there, and doesn’t even know where Lubbock is. Do they have her major? Can we afford it? Doesn’t know or care - she just needs to know; something, anything!
I suggested she call the admission office in Provo (first choice) but she said she was unwilling to face the possibility of rejection, verbally. (?) My kids are weird. I looked at BYU admissions on line and saw where it said that notification would sent be no later than four weeks after the deadline, but the next sentence said, “Incoming freshmen for the fall term will be notified by February 27.” I know she read this too, but I think she was unwilling to fathom the idea of three months of tortuous uncertainty.
Today I think she was filling out an application for Northeast Louisiana Tech Military Academy when she got word that she has been accepted to BYU Hawaii. The relief was evident. She doesn’t really wish to go there but at least it is something, anything. Hopefully this will pacify her at least until she hears from her first choice.
We did visit the Laie campus two weeks ago and took this shot of her:
Isn't she lovely? I think she’ll do wonderfully wherever she ends up!

You guys were in hawaii two weeks ago? Luckyyyyy.
In a comment that only "Vern" will understand: Yeah, we could afford to take to whole family because both Kara and Amanda had YW medallions. Hands off to you for the idea!
