I operate a small check cashing service at home for my kids. Instant cash, no fees, but often I do offer a “savings suggestion,” especially for amounts over an even $10 denomination. Last week Ryan handed me his paycheck for $55.83 and assented to $5.83 in savings. I handed him a $50 bill which he was not expecting.

He held it looking puzzled and asked, “What am I going to do with this?” (meaning that it is easier to spend tens and twenties.)

“Admire it” I said.
