Schooled

My cousin Kory paid us a visit last night (he is in town on business.) My children do not know him. The last time we saw him was at a large family gathering years ago and he was just another adult they ignored. This time they paid close attention, especially when he offered to show Ryan a wrestling move that he perfected in High School. So here was Ryan “locked up” with a 40+ year-old accountant and we watched in awe as the “more experienced” wrestler suddenly flipped the apprentice onto his back and pinned him. It took less than 2 seconds. Pinned. Done.

It turns out that this move is a Kory Original; he invented it in high school as a way to finish matches more quickly. (If you know Kory this comes as no surprise.) He showcased the move later on Amanda’s boyfriend Sean, who is a more experienced wrestler, but had identical results.

For you wrestling aficionados, I think Sean called it a modified “Jap Whizzer” but said he’d never seen it done that way.  Something more subtle about the approach to the controlling arm.  I realize that there is no "secret wrestling move" that is not defensible (or it wouldn't be much of a sport) but I think that most guys didn't realize what was happening in the Kory Whizzer until they were staring up into the rafters at last year's championship banner.
