Sociology Major in the making

Erika asked for my help again on her multiple choice math homework.  She said, “I want you to tell me what the answers are. Don’t try to teach me; just give me the answers.”

Nice try. I like the directness and the honesty, but no self-respecting parent would do this.

I read the first problem and asked her what she thought the answer was. She resolutely said, “A.” I asked, “Why?” She responded, “OK, B.” She was trying to read me. “C?” she offered. “Just tell me.”

I wasn’t about to just tell her, in part because I didn’t yet know. I carefully read the question and each of the answers. They were all wrong; I could easily prove it. You know, this was not the first time we’ve come across this. I probably should send a note to the math teacher.

I told Erika my findings; I don’t think that was a breach of tutoring ethics. She said, “I just need to circle one. Which one is the least wrong?”

Oi.
