Continuing the air freshener strain, I returned to the drugstore to surprise Kara with the right thing. I found that the air freshener section was opposite the Odor Neutralizer section, and there were a ton of fragrances from Country Vanilla to Berry Burst. It was like 31 flavors for your nose. But there was no Hawaiian Breeze. There was a “plug-in” of that variety, but I know she wanted the aerosol.
This is truly a modern problem. When Pa Ingalls was headed to the Dry Feed store in town, I’m sure Caroline would just say something like, “We need a bushel of barley and molasses.” Done. No list, no special instructions. Try to imagine Pa's expression if she would have said, “Get the large bushel of Prairie Pride barley, tropical, but not the jumbo. With lime. And get the Double Sweet molasses, unfiltered, Lite, with the no-drip spout. Wait, scratch that last part, we still have dirt floors. I don't mind a drip.”
