Pre-Opening Ceremonies Intro

It wasn't bad, actually. A little hokey maybe, but overall, not bad. I did take exception to one phrase though. The stoic voice said, “Where athletes will defy gravity.” I don’t think that is possible. How do you do that? Do you say “Gravity, I defy thee” right before your pole vault? You wouldn’t want to say it too loudly because the other athletes would just do the same. “Wow Jim, the leprechaun from Ireland just shattered the world record of 21 feet by 1.7 miles!”

I’m no scientist, but I don’t think “defying gravity” is possible. Even if you could somehow suspend the earth’s rotation during your turn on the pommel horse, resulting in reduced gravitational pull (I think), gravity still exists and you can’t defy it. Besides, IOC would probably make such a stunt illegal, or at least a mandatory half point deduction. I think that uniform gravity kind of makes the games good. I don’t want them to defy it. (Also, it would wreak havoc on the darts team. High again!)
