Working Man

images Right after his 15th birthday, Ryan got a job working at Papa Murphy’s Take n' Bake. He is earning $6.55 an hour. Before scout camp, he had a single two-hour training shift. He has worked several 4-hour shifts since then but last night he got his first paycheck. Ever. The net check was for $12.10. He applied the entire post-tithe balance to his loan from The Bank of Kara (it is a good loan of you can get it: no interest, no credit checks, no collateral and sometimes no records or follow-up.)

He has enjoyed working on the pizza assembly line. However, last night he had three hours of washing dishes. He told me that at one point he glanced at the clock and was pleasantly surprised that he only had 15 minutes left on his three-hour shift. Strange, time always seemed to slow down for me when doing menial work. He then realized that he had misread the clock; he really had an hour and fifteen minutes. OK, life is still the same, and I am happy that he is getting a chance to experience it. (I’m also happy that The Bank of Kara got $10.72 returned to it!)
