9 Spatulas

After doing the dishes last night Kara remarked, “There were nine spatulas in the sink. Nine! Why did we use nine spatulas today?” As I do most of the cooking she looked to me for an explanation. I could only account for three or four but then Ryan offered that he has been on a quesadilla kick lately. OK, that explains it. His CSPQ  (clean spatula per quesadilla) ratio is at least 1:1.

But this raised another question in my mind: Why do we have nine spatulas? Kara said we don’t. We have 14. OK, same question, bigger number. I don’t think I have ever purchased a spatula. What was it about spatula #14 that made Kara feel that we needed it more than the $2.49 plus tax we paid for it? “Oh yeah. The other 13 are no good. Look at this beauty!” Seriously, how many spatulas do we need? I can only even think of six varieties, metal or plastic; large, medium and small. What else is there?

14? That’s like one every 17 months of our marriage. I don’t even have that many socks. I’m starting to think that of the nine she found in the sink, maybe some were clean but we just ran out of places to keep them.
