We have recently been experiencing a rash of fault-finding, tattling, and the like. (Well, when I say “recently” I mean “since 2002.”) At dinner last night Kara said that with the new school year, she wanted to kids to stop pointing out others’ inappropriate behavior; let us be the parents.
Ryan tauntingly said, “Yeah, Er-i-ka!”
Erika protested. Kara sighed, defeated. I looked at Ryan reprovingly and in an instant saw that his intent was irony rather than defiance. Not real funny, but I had to smile at it.
