Signal Strength

Sometimes I really hate Windows. I mean I love it most of the time but parts of it frustrate me. Today it is some problem between Internet Explorer and my wireless network. Every two weeks or so I simply cannot get on-line. The software on the CPU recognizes the wireless network, and even tells the that the signal is “Good” but it doesn’t work. Every few minutes I hover my cursor over the little network connectivity icon and it gives me an Mbps number of 36 or 48 and then provides a qualitative assessment like “Good” or “Very Good.” The higher the number the better the praise. “Very Strong”or “Oh my gosh, this is the best connection ever, you could probably beam up humans.” But I don’t care how impeccable my connection may be if the browser won't work.

So I refer to brother Dan’s playbook and start right-clicking things and one option I have is to “Repair.” That sounds good. After about 20 seconds and a series of screen shots, it tells me that Windows is not currently managing my wireless network. Who is? I only have one operating system, I promise. And Windows keeps telling me that my connection is “Very Strong” or asking “Why are you still hovering, retard?” Doesn’t that mean they are managing some aspect of my wireless network?

I think that it thinks I was flirting with a different wireless network manager, and it got its feelings hurt. It was working this morning just fine; you would think that if I changed my wireless network manager I would know it. I just ate a bowl of Grape Nuts. That’s all, I promise. But I guess you can't see the kitchen from the study; it worries a lot.

It does tell me that if I want to have Windows manage my connection to read Microsoft publication 112287 or something like that. How? Not on-line, I can tell you that. Do I send away for it? Does the IRS have it?

We're on better terms now.

One solution to the browser problems: download Google Chrome. It has it's own problems but you could download Firefox and have it all work properly...

Wireless isn't perfect. Some people never have problems others are plagued ... some have problems with cisco, some with apple, some with windows.

It probably won't help but Google Chrome is a cool browser.

"but it was working, just a second ago!
"I'm sorry but it's not working now..."
